Connection in a zany, tech-frenzied world.

I’ve been thinking for a long time about writing this blog, mulling it over, trying to decide on a focus, a subject I could write passionately about, with enough energy to generate ideas, day after day, for the foreseeable future.

This, at least for me, was harder than it seems, mostly because there are so many possibilities. Like forcing myself to buy one pair of shoes. Where do I start? Pumps are a great, traditional, multi-purpose shoe, but what if my feet hurt? And what about sandals? Or boots? Or those adorable, must-have espadrilles on the mark-down rack at my favorite boutique?

In our zany, hurry-up world, we’re connected too often by technology. The idea of human connection, people connecting–at home, at work, in the neighborhood, across continents–people longing for and missing connections moves me. It keeps me awake at night, and it’s been the cornerstone of all my work, through college and grad school, in my early days as a reporter for the local newspaper, and, later, in the themes of my stories and novels. This, I finally decided, would be my one pair of shoes.

I’m sure, probably more often than I’d like to admit, I’ll run out of ideas. When I do, I’ll do what we all do when the well runs dry. Steal from somebody else. (Kidding.) Better yet, I’ll look for advice from the pros.

Here’s an interview with Seth Godin about ideas and the creative process. Enjoy! http://blog.stevenpressfield.com/2010/01/ww24-an-interview-with-seth-godin/

So…welcome to my blog.
